BOTOX® Cosmetic is a simple, nonsurgical treatment that can temporarily smooth moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people from 18 to 65 years of age. It is the only treatment of its type approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
One 10-minute treatment—a few tiny injections—and within days there’s a noticeable improvement in moderate to severe frown lines between the brows, which can last up to 4 months. Results may vary.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, which reduces the activity of the muscles that cause those frown lines between the brows to form over time.
How does BOTOX® Cosmetic work? BOTOX® Cosmetic is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of the “Angry 11’s”; the moderate-to-severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines). It works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles. This reduces muscle activity that causes moderate to severe lines to form between the brows. It gives you a more relaxed or refreshed appearance.
When will I see results from a BOTOX® treatment? Within 5-10 days, you may see a marked improvement in the moderate-to-severe frown lines between your brows. Lines continue to improve for up to 30 days. How long does BOTOX® Cosmetic last? Visible results have been shown to last up to 3-6 months. Your own results may vary – be sure to schedule your follow up with your practioner, together you will determine when your follow up should be to obtain and maintain long lasting results. Who should administer BOTOX® Cosmetic? Botox Should be administered by a licensed medical professional such as a Doctor or Registered Nurse. What is an important factor in deciding who should administer your botox is how often the professional injects this product. The title of MD or RN is not the differentiating factor. It is their experience in Botox coupled with both frequency and artistry. Some professionals dedicate their careers to the administration of Botox and Fillers and become experts in those areas. These are the professionals that are preferred. Is treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic painful? Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. The entire procedure takes approximately 10 minutes. Most patients are in and out without downtime following BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment. Side effects associated with the injection include localized pain, infection, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, swelling, redness, and/or bleeding/bruising. Will I still be able to make facial expressions? Although the results are visible, a treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA) will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you’ve “had work done.” The muscle activity that causes frown lines between the brows is temporarily reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases between your brows.
